Kintock Opens New Luzerne Building in Philadelphia
October 1, 2024--Kintock is excited to announce the grand opening of its newest site in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This expansion will allow the company to expand its current service offerings, starting with the opening of a federal residential reentry center at this location.
“We are thrilled to open our Luzerne site, which will allow us to expand our residential programming in Philadelphia,” said Walter Simpkins, CEO of Kintock.
In May 2023, Kintock purchased the Luzerne property, which included two buildings. Since then, Kintock has completely renovated the building. The bathrooms and kitchen we fully renovated, the entire building was painted, lighting was upgraded to LED, roof was replaced, and new flooring was installed in the lobby and administrative area.
Beginning October 1, Kintock will house a 60-bed residential and a 30-bed home confinement program for male and female federal offenders at the Luzerne site in building one, under a newly awarded contract by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Scott Weiss, previously the Program Director at Kintock’s Erie Avenue RRC, will oversee the Luzerne site. Celestine Gardner has been promoted to Program Director of the federal program at Erie Avenue.
RRC program participants at both the Luzerne and Erie Avenue sites will receive a full array of services, including employment preparation and job placement, vocational training, life skills and access tosubstance use disorder education and treatment. Kintock has housed a residential reentry program for federal offenders at its Erie Avenue location since 2001. This new building has allowed Kintock to increase access to much needed reentry services for this population.
“Our aim is to increase access to essential reentry services for these criminal justice populations,” said Paul Taggines, COO of Kintock.
Located at located at 600 East Luzerne Street, the Luzerne site consists of two 20,000 sq ft facilities, that are less than one mile from Kintock’s Erie Avenue facility. Situated in the Juniata Park/Feltonville section of Philadelphia, the Luzerne building is assessable by public transportation, including bus routes and SEPTA, which run through the neighborhood.
The building features resident dormitories, day rooms, classrooms, a computer lab, a dining room, and a multi-purpose area that can be used for recreation and visiting. There is also an outdoor recreation yard and a parking lot.
Building two is leased to the City of Philadelphia for emergency housing.
Frank Guyon, Philadelphia Site Administrator will oversee operations at the Luzerne site.
